Tom Sawyer's Island Part 1

It's a bit hard to see but it says the last raft leaves for the island at 4:30 p.m.

Here comes the old Mark Twain...

Hey buddy, you don't need to wait for the raft, ya know.

I looked down and saw this...

Aw, look at the two of them, side by side!

A castmember was feeding the ducks.

The Mansion looked rather lonely, I thought.

I liked that you could see Splash Mountain through the rigging of the Columbia.

OK, I'm on the island and have decided to go....to me left!
(I'm talking like a pirate already!)

A glimpse of someone working on Splash Mountain...

As I approach Fort Wilderness, I can't help but wonder... Didn't those towers have roofs at one time???

I'll have to search through my old photos because I'm sure they used to have roofs on them.

The Hungry Bear is closed for renovation...

I continue walking to the back of the island...

What's this?? Canoe storage while work is being done across the river.

Well I'll be darned! There really IS a cemetery on the island!!! I guess I never walked all the way back here before!

Let's see who is "buried" here...

I peeked through some very small cracks in this fence - too small for my lens - and saw a very rough workshop.

One quick look back at the cemetery...

...and I reach the end of the island.

I can hardly wait to go exploring in the caves! But first, we continue walking up the other side of the island. Tomorrow!

Love this post; it is not often enough that I make my way to the island. Thanks for the great reminder! And yes - the fort used to have a topper on those columns. It used to have a lot of stuff!

Outstanding.

I have wonderful memories of my kids feeding the ducks while having lunch at the lower level of the 'Hungry Bear'.

This is fun.
Nice pics Connie. Great trip around the island.

The island is great fun. I remember taking my kids 2 or 3 years ago...their first trip on the rafts over, they were nervous and scared and didn't want to go. It took some serious convincing that they'd be safe (none of them were great swimmers, although they loved swimming, and they were worried about falling in).

Once there, we spent probably an hour letting them run through the caves and around the fort. It was so much fun. They absolutely loved it...and so did my wife and I.

Gotta love the island. :)

What a fun series, Connie! I love photos of the Disneyland ducks and cats. What a great shot of the duck standing on the dock....it really does look like he's waiting for a raft!

P.S. Did you ask anyone what that metal marker with the "003" on it was?
