Using Disney books in a new way!

Today I am sharing a cool "new" book I bought a couple of weeks ago. What makes it so special? First of all, it's a Disney book. But not just any Disney book. No, this little puppy was rescued from the unwanted heap and re-purposed as a journal. Let's take a look, shall we?

Here I have laid out the book so that you can see both the front and back covers.

As you open the book, you see that the previous owner thoroughly enjoyed his book.

Interesting artwork is saved to make the journal interesting.

I think this is the neatest idea!!

Here's some info on these books, from the site:
Not unlike a snowflake, a soft puppy, or a slice of warm pie, every journal we make here at ex libris anonymous is one-of-a-kind, unique, and completely unrepeatable experience. we start by exhaustively searching for the most interesting recycled books we can find, and after carefully curating our favorites, we salvage the covers (and selected pages) of the lucky book.

Our next step is to fill the journal with around 75 pages of blank, 24/60#, acid-free paper (which makes for great journaling or sketching paper). we then interleave actual pages from the book right alongside the blank journal paper.  you’ll be amazed at all the lovely stuff in these old books -- beautiful cover pages, delightful illustrations, half-filled library cards, cool old maps, personal inscriptions for mysterious previous owners -- with every page you turn, it’s like getting the prize at the bottom of the cereal box. (so really, it’s like getting a whole bunch of prizes from a whole bunch of cereal boxes).

Because each book is unique, each journal is a slightly different size. we do our very best to make journals that are of an average or reasonable size (if exact dimensions are important to you, e-mail us your question, and we’ll get back to you promptly).

To complete it’s formative journey, we collate and drill the journal with holes, and then bind it with plastic coil. voila! the metamorphosis is complete, and the new journal is ready to be scrawled, scrapped, brushed and glued upon by it’s lucky owner.

ex libris anonymous has been building delightful handmade journals since 2000. currently located just off the banks of the muddy Willamette, our studio can be found in the lovely and damp city of Portland, Oregon.

I've always wanted to keep a journal but I kept getting caught up in the "what ifs" - what if I make mistakes? I can't erase. What if I get too busy to keep a daily journal? I finally decided SO WHAT? It's no big deal. Just do it and have something neat to leave for my son. There is no law that says I have to write in the book daily, right. So from time to time I will enter whatever is rattling around in my brain and I'm sure he will get a kick out of it some day. I sure wish I had something written by my mom other than the signed birthday cards I've kept through the years.

These cool recycled books can be used for anything, really. I bought one a year ago for my son and he uses it to jot down ideas for songs. I highly suggest you explore their site if just for fun. You would be amazed at the different books they have!  If you want the book in its original state, click here.
