Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe

I am such a dope! I failed to get a photo of the outside of this restaurant mainly because I was so wrapped up in admiring its coolness along with the AWESOME music that is playing both inside and out. I don't know what it is but at night, it looks incredible! I did manage to record an audio clip for The Disneyland Gazette, at least! If interested, check out our podcast, episode #128 for my audio reports that night.

This place is HUGE! I haven't eaten there yet but I plan to! I walked around looking at all of the stuff hanging on the walls because everything was so cool.

Again, another part of my history...Silver Lake. I went to school nearby and several of my friends lived in the Silver Lake area.

I promise that I'll take pictures of my food when I finally do get to eat here!

Buena Vista Street - Looking Around in Awe

I continued walking down Buena Vista Street, literally making myself dizzy because my head was going up and down, side to side, trying to take it all in. Here you see the Hyperion Bridge looking really cool against the shops. Ya, I know the people are out of focus but let's be real - you're not here to see people shots, right?  LOL!

The planters on Buena Vista Street are spectactular!

And then there's the fountain. Wow. It reminded me of the Mullholland Fountain on Riverside Drive in style. Here's another link. And another!

The DCA fountain actually made me feel nostalgic since I grew up not too far from the Mullholland Fountain. But enough about me...

Ghosts of Guests Past...
At this point, the fountain is behind me and I am looking out towards the shops. It's a lousy picture since it is out of focus and yet it conveys the feeling of a busy downtown Los Angeles street. At least to me it does!

I didn't realize this would turn into a history lesson about me but I grew up next to Elysian Park and my family would go there all the time and we lived in Elysian Valley so I HAD to take a picture of this!

Once inside, there is ice cream to the left and candy to the right.

A castmember told me that the chocolate dipped marshmellows are made fresh on site every day. Guess what I'm getting the next time I go back?

Buena Vista Street - The Stores

I decided to peek into the Los Feliz Five and Dime and was drawn in. I found that these stores flow from one to the next, just like the ones on Disneyland's Main Street.

As a child, my family would makes trips to downtown Los Angeles to shop so I have very vivid memories of what those fabulous stores looked like, both inside and out. I was anxious to check out Buena Vista Street to see for myself if these recreations measured up.

WOW! Yes, they did!

Gorgeous tile work and crown molding everywhere.

And then...I got distracted by the merchandise!

See those hats in the previous photo? Ya, they are GREAT. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean.

What was I doing in here? Oh ya, checking out the store interior...but something is pulling me back outside.

After admiring the cool window display...

... my attention is pulled by the Hyperion Bridge. I love it!

Looking up to my left, I notice a very cool balcony.

I am falling in love with all the details on Buena Vista Street.

Much to my surprise, they have even recreated the lights that used to be on the sidewalks!!

That's it for now but I'll be back soon

Buena Vista Street

Let's continue...

At this point, I've walked a few feet and again, started turning around and around, gawking at everything in front of me! I stopped at this new Customer Service area and it took me a while to "snap out of it" and start taking pictures, LOL. Again, I apologize for these - my camera is not as new and advanced as those of my fellow bloggers but I hope regular readers can at least get a feeling for this wonderful new area of DCA.

The inside of Oswald's is small but jam packed with details, including a vintage radio broadcast coming out of this little radio!

The costumes are great.

Believe me, if I had funds, I'd buy! Will be back with more in a couple of days.

Buena Vista Street - First Impressions

I have several photos that aren't perfect and unless you really want to see them, I'll keep those hidden away. However, if I get enough comments begging me to post those fuzzy gems, I will. You know, the old girl ain't what she used to be. I'm talking about my camera, people, not me, LOL!!

To say that I was floored would be an understatement. Here are the first few photos that I took right after walking through the gate. Wow...

I literally turned and turned and turned in circles several times until I started to get a bit dizzy. I had planned to record an audio report for The Disneyland Gazette but at that point, words had become useless to me. Looking at these photos now, I still can't adequately describe just how beautiful Buena Vista Street truly is.

After I sorta "came out of my spell", I glanced down and saw these Grad Nite tickets. I thought it made a neat shot, LOL.

OK, let's look at these cool buildings again!

I have a special spot in my heart for this. For those of you that don't know, this is a replica of the Hyperion Street bridge in Los Angeles. I grew up near that bridge and traveled across it hundreds if not thousands of times, never knowing how close it was to Walt's first studio. In 2000, I learned about this and while I have always loved this bridge, it made it even more special to me. I  liked to imagine Walt driving his car across that bridge on his way to Glendale to eat lunch at the Tam 0'Shanter!

Again, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed exploring Buena Vista Street!

If you want to take a look at the historical marker where the original studio once stood, check out this past blog post.
