Held Hostage by Dumbo

When I saw this picture, the memories came flooding back to me!

In 1960, I was held hostage by Dumbo the Flying Elephant. How can that be?
Well...I was five years old and my nephew was three. Yes, my nephew! Anyway, we were so excited because we were allowed to ride on Dumbo all by ourselves. Back then, the castmember would walk around the attraction, making sure that everyone was securely belted in. I remember him telling us to stay in our seats when the ride ended and he would come over to undo our "seat belt".  We rode Dumbo and when the ride ended, we sat in our elephant as we were instructed to do. We waited and waited and then suddenly, the ride started going again. My nephew and I looked at each other and even though we were very young, we knew we had scored! We grinned from ear to ear as we waved to our parents below. Round and round and round we went and finally the ride came to an end. Once again, we sat in our elephant waiting for the castmember to come around and release us. Guess what? Dumbo started flying again! And then it happened again. And then it happened AGAIN! My brother-in-law finally had to walk over to the castmember running the controls and told him that there were two little kids who had enjoyed riding Dumbo SEVEN times but it was time for us to move on. Can you believe that? I wonder how long we could have stayed on the ride??? LOL!!

To this day, whenever I walk by Dumbo, I have the biggest grin on my face.
