Life is a Journey

In recent years the island has been called Pirate's Lair. I still prefer to call it Tom Sawyer's Island. The island has been closed for some time but if all goes well it will reopen in May of 2017 at the same time the Disneyland Railroad become operational again. A part of the island will be missing - gone forever. Back in 2011 I took you on a photo tour of the island. This might be a good time to take a look back and remember how things were because we really have no idea what to expect once it reopens. My nine part series began in February of 2011 and ended in March. So many photos to share! Click here to read that first post. In the coming days I will post links to the rest of the tour because I know interest in the island is growing rapidly and to be honest, since I wasn't on Twitter back then, I didn't get to share this with so Disneyland fans worldwide, lol. What have we here? I am inside another cave and I find this door...I wonder if this is another cave that was closed off by Disneyland? Oh man, the kid in me LOVES these stairs! Up, up, up we go! Let's get a better look... Oh ya, love those stairs! But first, let's peek through that crack... Reaching the top of the stairs, I find myself outside. What a cool view. Oh boy, now I can pretend I'm a pirate, LOL! Checking out Critter Country.... ...the entire area is closed for rehab. Now, I'm looking back to my right... Now looking over to my left... Was this once the location of Castle Rock? Might those be barrels of rum?? I decide to go to my right and explore... There are some cool views from this point. Gosh, so much to see...wish I could spend the whole day here. Come back tomorrow for part 9!

I made it safely out of the cave! So what happens next? We climb some stairs.... I wonder what's behind that door? Probably something Fantasmic related. I go up a few more stairs and notice this cool water feature that leads to the Mill.   Oh, there it is...the treehouse! I like the way the water "originates" from the bottom of the tree. Let's walk around the tree and get a good look... Hmmm...... I guess that's where I need to go. Part of me wonders if I"ll fit!! A quick look back before I enter the treehouse. If you had been with me, you would have heard me say out loud: "Oh man, I hope those guys (meaning you) appreciate this!!" Before I proceed to climb these stairs.... I look down at the latter I just climbed up. I took a deep breath and climbed into the treehouse. It took me a minute or so to adjust...but then I started admiring the plac...

I think this is what everyone has been waiting for! Let's see where this goes.... ...it goes nowhere! Could this be the old Injun Joe cave that was closed up several years ago? I tried to peek through the fence but there was a black wall behind the wooden gate. Phooey! The view from inside the "cave". Ok, let's go find a cave to explore... Small, medium and large! Ah ha!!! My eyes needed a moment to adjust...and I loved the creepiness! What's THIS??? Wow, this is so COOL! We continue creeping through passageways... ...and stumble upon this. Oh oh.... WOW....I felt like a kid again! And all the while you hear noises, like bats and rattling chains!!! This cave goes on and on... I spotted this and got closer for a better look... ...and was startled when I heard a pirate address me! Still more to explore... ...
